Changing our customers' views on workers with disabilities

It is through inclusion that ARA Hôtel plays its role of professional integration. This means that the company adapts its operations and the position so that working conditions are as optimal as possible, and not the other way around. Here, 80% of the team is made up of employees with disabilities, often far from employment. The establishment also serves as a showcase to demonstrate the diversity of the sector: soaps, teas, beers, wines, jams, etc. come from other disability structures (ESAT or EA). The same goes for the different service providers (green spaces, laundry). After 20 years of activity in the integration through employment of people with disabilities, Didier DUBOIS, president and founder of the group of Adapted Companies VIDEAL, realized that this sector was not known to the general public. “We therefore had to create a place demonstrating our know-how, visible to both professionals and individuals. What could be better than a hotel to put our employees in an ordinary environment, facing the customer?".

Beyond promoting inclusion, the company’s approach is comprehensive:

  • An ecological hotel (holder of the European Ecolabel for 3 years, anti-waste approach, composting, local and organic purchases, etc.)
  • Strong involvement in local life and particularly in the development of the social and solidarity economy


Corporate Social Responsibility, a standard for companies that assume their role

Committed by nature, the establishment wanted to have its CSR practices evaluated. Corporate Social Responsibility is the voluntary integration of social and environmental concerns into their commercial activities and their relationships with stakeholders. A company that practices CSR therefore seeks to have a positive impact on society, while being economically viable.

After a careful audit by AFNOR during the summer of 2020, ARA Hôtel obtained the “Exemplary” label. This is the highest level of certification. For manager Solène LAGATHU, “it sends a strong signal: that of an establishment which assumes the impacts of its decisions and is committed to the sustainable development of its activities. By becoming the 2nd Breton company to obtain this maximum level, we are strengthening our approach to continuous improvement, a source of great pride for our teams who, on a daily basis, contribute to this success.

According to AFNOR, “the level reached places ARA Hôtel in an exceptional situation for a company which is submitting itself for the evaluation for the first time. CSR is part of their DNA. This result is as remarkable for the youth of the company (5 years) as for its size (10 employees)". Collective Interest Cooperative Society (SCIC), Adapted Enterprise status, European Ecolabel, strong local involvement... this note salutes the global approach, and will allow corporate clients to include their choice of hotel as an element of their own policy CSR.
